Who we are

We Dine connects diners with restaurants offering cash back in exchange for an honest, anonymous review. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have over it. Questions go to privacy@wedineapp.com.

What we collect

DataWhy
Name and email addressTo create and secure your account
Venmo handle or Zelle emailTo send you cash back. Used for nothing else.
Phone number (optional)Payout identification, if you provide it
Receipt photographsTo verify a visit happened and read the items ordered
Survey answersThe feedback the restaurant is paying for
Approximate location (optional)To sort restaurants by distance. Only with your permission, only while the app is open, and never stored.

We do not collect payment card numbers, bank details, or precise background location.

What restaurants can see

A restaurant sees your survey answers, your receipt, the check number, and the server named on it. It cannot see your name, email, phone number, or payout details. This separation is enforced by our database, not by policy alone — the record a restaurant reads has your identity removed before it reaches them.

Restaurants also see aggregate benchmarks comparing them to other venues. Those figures are averaged across multiple restaurants and never identify a specific competitor.

Receipt photographs

Receipts are stored so a restaurant can verify a survey against the actual visit. They are held at unguessable web addresses and are not listed publicly or indexed by search engines. Receipts sometimes show a cardholder name printed by the payment terminal; if that concerns you, pay cash or ask for a receipt without the payment slip.

How we use AI

Receipt photographs are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to read the total, date, and items ordered. Anthropic processes the image to return that result and does not use it to train models. No other personal information is sent.

Who else touches your data

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
  • Anthropic — reading receipt photographs
  • OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — converting restaurant street addresses to map coordinates. Diner locations are never sent.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for advertising of any kind.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account is open. Surveys and receipts are kept for as long as the restaurant needs them for their records, and stay linked to you only while your account exists.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from the app: Me → Delete my account on the diner app, or Profile → Delete this restaurant account on the restaurant app. No email request needed.

Deletion removes your profile, payout details, reservations, and sign-in immediately. Surveys you already submitted remain with the restaurant, but the link to you is severed permanently — they become anonymous feedback that cannot be traced back to any person. Unclaimed cash back is forfeited on deletion, so claim it first.

If you would rather we handled it, email privacy@wedineapp.com and we will action it within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

Children

We Dine is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we hold data belonging to a child under 13, we delete it.

Diners under the age of majority where they live should use We Dine only with a parent or guardian's involvement. Payout services such as Venmo and Zelle set their own minimum age, which applies regardless of our terms.

Security, honestly stated

Access to your data is restricted at the database level so that signed-in users reach only their own records. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfect, and we will tell affected users promptly if we ever discover a breach rather than waiting to be asked.

Changes

If we change this policy materially, we will update the date above and notify account holders by email before the change takes effect.
